Leeds City College has selected Batley based Caltech, one of the UK’s leading suppliers and implementers of Customer Relationship Management (CRM systems), to bring the power and efficiency of Microsoft Dynamics CRM to its organisation and IT systems. The new technology will handle key processes for Leeds City College and is considered to be a vital system in the continuing development of the newly merged college’s links with its many business customers.
Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Leeds City College chose Caltech through the tender process because of its expertise working with the solution, as well as its experience in implementing CRM to such high standards for other clients.
Leeds City College, led by Principal and Chief Executive Peter Roberts, is one of the largest and most influential colleges in the country with over 45,000 students and a turnover of £80m a year. Leeds City College recently celebrated winning its first prestigious Heist Award, in recognition of its marketing launch campaign.
“We expect the move to Microsoft Dynamics CRM to provide significant value for our college,” said Paul Titman, Business Manager – Computing (who is managing the implementation of the system) at Leeds City College. “The programs and features are familiar to our people and flexible for our needs. Caltech’s expertise with Microsoft Dynamics made them the right choice to help make this project a success.” Paul can be contacted by email – paul.titman@leedscitycollege.ac.uk for reference purposes.
“Microsoft Dynamics CRM provides high value for our customers, along with an architecture that enables us to easily tailor CRM to fit the specific needs of Leeds City College. The education sector is an exciting market so it’s fantastic to be working with such an influential organisation,” said Rob Walwyn, project manager at Caltech CRM.
“Caltech is truly helping demonstrate the power of Microsoft Dynamics through this new solution for Leeds City College,” said Doug Kennedy, vice president, Microsoft Dynamics Partners at Microsoft Corp. “We congratulate Caltech for securing this opportunity and welcome Leeds City College to the Microsoft Dynamics family.”

Batley based Caltech, one of the UK’s leading suppliers and implementers of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems has further strengthened its experience and credentials in the public and health sectors after securing a contract with the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) to implement a brand new cutting edge in-house Microsoft CRM solution. The principle aims of the project are to provide a better mechanism for identifying key trends and issues relating to the guidance NICE produces, and to improve the efficiency of service provided by the enquiry handling team.
NICE was established in 1999 and is an independent organisation that provides national guidance on the promotion of good health and the prevention and treatment of ill health. The organisation works with a wide range of people, including health professionals and other NHS workers, patients, carers and the general public. One of the main aims of NICE guidance is to promote equality of service across the country so the same treatments are available to all patients – regardless of where they live.
The installation of the Microsoft CRM solution will help the Institute in a number of ways; the new system will provide detailed statistical reporting by determining key trends on all the contacts being received. It will also help to improve reporting to the Institute’s board, aid better strategic planning, reduce the time members of the enquiry team spend on administration and make it easier to trace all correspondence relating to individual communications. It will also help to improve visibility in terms of monitoring who is dealing with individual enquiries. Commenting on the project for NICE, Teresa Birch, communications manager said, ‘We’ve been particularly impressed with the way Caltech has worked with us to understand and interpret our individual requirements for this system. The project has been well managed throughout with Caltech providing additional support to ensure the system was delivered on time and within budget.’
Phil Callaghan, managing director of Caltech, commented; ‘The public and health sectors are really exciting markets so it’s fantastic to be working with such an influential organisation. NICE does an amazing job, and has a huge impact across the UK, so I am sure our work with the team will only add further value to an already dynamic group of people.’

How to effectively engage with customers and clients is a complex minefield for most businesses at the best of times and never more so now we’re in such a challenging economic environment. So, Caltech – one of the UK’s leading suppliers and implementers of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems – is staging a unique and free event entitled ‘Doing More with Less – The Key to Growth’ that will aim to educate and demonstrate how effective CRM can drive business development for organisations of all sizes and from all sectors. The event will be taking place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Leeds on Tuesday 9th March, 2010.
Split into two key morning and afternoon sessions, the free event will be chaired and hosted by the Caltech team and will include all the latest information and updates from the world of CRM including updates and news from FrontRange Solutions and Microsoft. Delegates will also hear how they can stay ahead of the competition through case study presentations, exhibitor stands and one to one sessions from leading industry experts.
In addition, a separate breakaway session called ‘Helping Your Not for Profit Organisation Doing More with Less – The Key to Growth’ is also being held on the day which is specifically designed to meet the individual requirements and needs of the charitable and NFP sector.
Discussing the event, Phil Callaghan – managing director of Caltech – said; ‘We know businesses and NFP organisations are taking tough decisions in difficult circumstances and often in tight time scales. That’s just the time when it’s easy to forget about the customer – but a wrong decision and bad engagement could be the difference between long term success or failure.
Phil concluded; We’ve planned an event which will be very informative where delegates will be able to implement what they’ve learned with confidence and better knowledge.’

With not for profit organisations going through tough times like the rest of the UK, recruiting and maintaining volunteer bases and engaging with new audiences is a constant battle. So, to help, Caltech – one of the UK’s leading suppliers and implementers of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems – is this week launching a brand new white paper entitled Succeeding Beyond Recession: Five Priorities for Not-For-Profit Organisations which focuses on how technology can help not for profit organisations to achieve their goals.
The comprehensive document details how organisations of all sizes can influence supporters and gain trust using CRM. The system, which is widely used to great effect in the private sector, allows users to track and manage each and every contact; from supporters and volunteers to stakeholders. It can also automate repetitive tasks which in turn improves efficiency, allowing staff to spend more time on the critical matters of business.
An effective and well managed CRM system can also ensure that NFP organisations speak to their contacts regularly – usually every 30 to 60 days – about topics that are relevant to them as messages can be quickly and easily segmented and sent. The main areas that will benefit from this white paper will be: fundraising management, volunteer management, special event management, membership management and donor/supporter management.
Phil Callaghan, managing director of Caltech and publisher of the white paper, commented; ‘Just like any private business, it is essential for NFP organisations to establish what it is that they want to achieve and then work out how CRM can make this happen – both now and for the future.
Phil concluded; CRM implementation affects nearly everyone in the organisation, so it is essential to approach it in a structured manner to minimise risk, reduce costs, provide a high level of return on investment and give ongoing capability to raise more money going forward. The aim of the report is to provide an easy to use and practical guide that can be put into practice’.
