My Leeds Business Week September 2013

My Leeds Business Week

Finally got back into the swing of things after Leeds Business Week (23 – 27September 2013).  Phew what a week!  All thanks to Becky Black at the Yorkshire Mafia for organising a superb week with so many fantastic learning events.

Here’s a summary of my week and what I got up to!

On Monday 23rd September 2013 we ran a TechThat! Session with our friends at dotMailer – Marketing Automation and CRM a Marriage Made in Heaven.  We hope everyone got a lot from it and enjoyed the session.  All presentation materials have been sent to the delegates but if you wanted more information let me know!  Catherine”at”caltech.co.uk.

Straight from our Caltech CRM session to another TechThat! Session with Rob Wilmot from BCSAgency.  Rob presented a thoroughly enjoyable strategic approach to LinkedIn that we should all be following.  Feeling energised I started immediately making plans of how I can get more from LinkedIn and my time on social media.

From there I helped Phil Callaghan my managing director on the stand for a little while and caught up with other exhibitors.  Interesting products and lots of different services.  Great, lovely venue at the Leeds Club.

Another day at Leeds Business Week

Tuesday at Leeds Business Week, another busy morning with Eskimo Soup at Flannels in Leeds, who ran a Marketing for Technology Businesses session – right up my street.  Chris was a great presenter and gave me lots of food for thought talking about online and offline marketing.  Content marketing has been something I have focused a lot on over the last 12 months and they narrowed the field to persuasive content marketing; very enlightening.   A great tip (which I’m starting this week) was to ensure that you download Twitter for Small Business Guide.  This gives us “tweeters” a great weekly plan that we can put in place to broadcast on Twitter.

I met loads of great businesses loved meeting them all!

Wednesday we started at the Carriageworks in Leeds.  Our first session was with Ian Harris from Search Laboratories.  Ian gave us great insight into different blogging techniques and SEO methods, and again loads of helpful tips that we can start to put into place immediately.

From there it was straight to H&H session cannily entitled Executive decision: bringing people with you.  To be honest I was a little worried about this session as we received groups prior to attending and I was to be a Crow!  Helen Bissett was a great speaker and really got the whole group involved.  We got energised in a team exercise where we had to think about the best ways about getting the most from our teams and people.  Very knowledgeable and thoroughly enjoyable.  Phil my MD’s team won the team exercise and he received a book by H&H which I have stolen!  Sorry Phil…

On the Wednesday afternoon I attended a Festival of Business A Successful Sales Strategy that Delivers Results by Gary King at Tendo.  Again this was right up my street as it’s what we bang on about all the time!  Who are your best clients, what are your goals, your processes and how are you getting there?  CRM is a great solution to help you answer these questions and to get to do more for less – another endorsement learnt from Gary.  Thinking about how I can do things differently I set about making plans…

All in all it was a fantastic week, very busy (my feet hurt!) but met loads of great people and re-energized my efforts.

Thanks again Becky and the Yorkshire Mafia!
